MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS: Thursday, May 23, 2024 After school sports are cancelled for today. Attention 4th & 5th grade tech club and newspaper club. Our last meeting will be on Tuesday, May 28th. 8th grade NJHS members - Our trip to the Primary School is on Tuesday, May 28th after Memorial Day Weekend. Please dress in comfortable OCIS gear or wear red. You will be going to homeroom, then meeting in the library right after to prepare for the trip. See Mrs. Rhoads or Schoology with any questions. Congratulations to the track and field athletes that participated in the CAl Championship Meet on Tuesday. The girls’ team came in 6th place out of 14 teams. Many girls PR’d, some broke OCIS team records, and a few girls received medals for placing in the top 3 for their events. Cameron Curtis received a medal for placing second out of 28 athletes in the long jump with a jump of 15 ft 4.25 inches. Cameron also earned the team points by placing 5th out of 35 in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.4 seconds. In the 1600, Mallie Heenan earned our team points by placing 5th out of 30 athletes with a time of 6 min. 1 sec. Which is also the OCIS school record. In the 800, Ava Clevenger earned a medal for placing 3rd out of 34 athletes with a time of 2 min. 36.4 sec. Which is also a new school record. In the Shot Put, Noelle Nnewihe earned a medal for placing 3rd out of 28 athletes throwing 26.2 feet For the boys, in discus, Kaiden Grim earned a medal for placing 1st overall out of 40 athletes throwing 112 feet. Any girls that would like to see their times and places, I will have the sheet posted outside my classroom door. All of the Ocean City Track & Field Athletes did a fantastic job this season. We are proud of each and every one of you. Can’t wait till next year! Reminder there is no school tomorrow, Friday May 24th and Monday, May 27th. Happy Memorial Day!

MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS: Wednesday, May 22, 2024 Congratulations to 6th Grader Mallie Heenan for setting a new school record in the 20 meter PACER test. Mallie ran an amazing 114 laps, surpassing the previous school record of 111 laps. She has had her sights set on breaking the record all school year and this marking period she made it happen! Alex Whitworth started the game and Paxton Brunetti pitched the last 3 innings and both had outstanding outings on the mound. The boy's hitting was too much for Margate as they pulled away in the bottom of the 6th winning 13-3 as Andrew Valentine scored the final run of the game! The NY Division of Law Enforcement United, an organization made up of active and retired law enforcement officers and families of fallen officers, collaborated with the Ocean City Police Department to ride their Honor 37 bike route. Pedaling down Bay Avenue past the Intermediate School, these cyclists, journeying from the NYC World Trade Center Memorial Site to Washington DC, received cheers of support from OCIS students and staff.

Shoutout to our incredible PTA for making Teachers Appreciation Week extra special with their thoughtful gestures! Today's episode of our Friends celebration: "The Last One!" Teachers were treated to ice cream and water ice from Ken's ice cream truck, along with some extra surprises. Huge thanks to our amazing PTA for always going above and beyond to show their appreciation for the hard work our teachers and staff put in throughout the year.

The OCIS softball team played a great game yesterday against Jordan Road. OC came out on top with a final score of 14 to 3. Jalissa Legette dominated the mound, pitching 6 innings with 11 strikeouts. Marley Dwyer had a great game as catcher with 3 successful throw downs to get the out at 2nd and 3rd. Our defense was strong with notable plays by Cove Chew, Julie Costello, Skylar Hinrichsen, and Maddie Aragno. OC was strong at bat and on the bases with several RBI hitters and 10 stolen bases. Our next game is away at Upper Township on Monday. Keep up the good work girls! The baseball team got another win yesterday against Somers Point. Darrian Mayo had a great outing on the mound and Michael Stankiewicz took over after him pitching shut-out innings in the last 3. In a 4 to 4 tie game going into the 6th, the team rallied for 9 runs on a collective effort from everyone with the combination of smart base running, good at bats, and timely hits. In the end, the boys won 13 to 4 and moved to 3 and 2 on the season. They will look to continue this winning streak with 3 games next week starting off with Monday at Upper. Hard to believe, but we're down to just two days left of our Teacher Appreciation Week Friends celebration! Today's episode: "The One Where They Go Shopping!" Our dedicated teachers received Target gift cards from our thoughtful PTA to show our gratitude.

OCIS celebrated the induction of 15 new 7th-grade members into the National Junior Honor Society on Wednesday night. These students showed commitment to scholarship in their 7th grade year to become members. A special thank you extended to everyone who contributed to the ceremony's success: OCHS NJHS President Jackson Barnes for his inspiring speech, our fantastic PTA for providing the ice cream treats post-ceremony, and our departing 8th-grade members for putting on an superb show.

Michael Stankiewicz got things going with his base running in the first along with hitting a 3 RBI base clearing triple later in the game. JR Dinsmore pitched a complete game with over 10 strike outs as the boys won 8-4. The season continues today with a game at Somers Point. Congratulations to the girls' track team for their win against Galloway Township yesterday. Cameran Curtis broke another school record, this time in the long jump. There were several other great 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes by the team to help secure the win. Way to go girls! Honorable mention also goes out to...second place and top ranked player of the year, 6th grader Keegan Ruskoski, third place, 5th grader Nico D'Intino, and 4th-grader Rocco Rosetti for the most club wins throughout the year with 18.
