Jacqueline McAlister, an Ocean City BOE member since 2012, will represent the district’s students, families and administration in Trenton this month
Ocean City, N.J. – The Ocean City School District will be represented on the state and national level through a prestigious spot on the New Jersey School Board Association’s Nominating Committee.
Ocean City Board of Education member Jacqueline McAlister was invited to serve on the NJSBA Nominating Committee, which reviews and nominates candidates for positions on the Association’s Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee, and delegates to the American Bar Association. The committee meets three times this month at the association’s headquarters in Trenton.
“I’m excited to serve on the NJSBA Nominating Committee because the decisions made by this group directly impact the leadership and direction of the organization, ultimately influencing education policy at both the state and national levels,” said McAlister, who has served on the Ocean City BOE since 2012. “My priority in every role I take on as a board member is to support the students, families and staff of the Ocean City School District, and this opportunity allows me to ensure that our district’s voice is part of these important conversations. When our district is identified as one that will engage in state-level conversations, our students benefit through increased name recognition, new opportunities, and the connections we build on their behalf.”
McAlister, a project specialist with the Office of Comprehensive Support in the New Jersey Department of Education, is also on the NJSBA Board of Directors and is a leader for the association’s New Board Member Orientation process - an intensive three-day training on effective board governance. Every newly elected school board member must participate in the orientation, which examines topics including current school law, guidelines for conducting official meetings, Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying processes, and how to maintain a professional communication style.
“I believe every elected official, in every arena of service, accepts a responsibility to advocate — not just by voting, but by attending conferences, engaging in learning opportunities, networking, and serving on committees,” said McAlister. “I’m thrilled to be part of the OCSD BOE because the members relish each opportunity to represent and advocate for our community.”
Through these leadership opportunities, the OCSD will have a valuable voice in public education that will benefit students across the state.
“This is such a great opportunity for Jacqueline and our district,” said OCSD Superintendent Dr. Christian Angelillo. “Receiving this honor displays the commitment and dedication of our board members to serving our community and the state. I am proud of our district and all the work the OCSD BOE does to ensure the progress of education statewide.”
